I wanted to wait 7 days past the inauguration to write a blog on our new president. All I have to say is that I spent many years in a home that surrounded me in so much culture and history that there is no way that I can ever ignore who I am as an American. I feel proud when I am able to recall names, dates, and events of black history. I am honored to be a witness to collections of Jet, Ebony, Essence, and other print. And yet, here I am again, I was able to witness the inauguration of the first black president. I truly believe that many young people don't realize the height of this event. So in closing, its very important to KNOW who sacrificed what and when, so we one can recall why they are able to go to school, ride the bus, apply to a job, or even use the public restroom. Remember, it was only 4 decades ago that people couldn't stretch their arms.
