Sort of International: kidnapped or EXTREME vacation?

In the month of November, 17 year-old Burhan Hassan informed his family that he was "catching a ride to school with a friend" and has not been seen since. Just days ago his mother spoke to him over the phone. Hassan explained he was no longer in the US.

The mother quoted her son saying, "Mom, I'm in Somalia! Don't worry about me; I'm OK".

Mom said he had a "different" persona over the phone. Hassan and his family currently reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota. So what is Hassan doing in Somalia? Vacationing? Well, it turns out, not so much! Hassan is believed to be one of the many young men from Boston, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine, and Columbus that have suddenly vanished, and end up in Somali. The Somali community fears that their young men are "being prayed upon and recruited to fight jihad, or holy war, in Somalia". Coincidentally, it appears that Hassan has followed the recent trend. Investigators believe that some may have been forced into this situation and willing follow.

In closing, it wasn't a kidnapping, nor a vacation. Its EXTREME! Phone home!
